On October 20, 2011, Muammar Gaddafi1 (born Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi c. 1940–1943) was killed by the NATO supported National Transitional Coucil (NTC) in the outskirts of Sirte, Libya.
Born near Sirte, Italian Libya, to a poor Bedouin family, Gaddafi ruled Libya as Revolutionary Chairman and Brotherly Leader from 1977 to 2011. Gaddafi led a bloodless military coup d'etat in 1969 overthrowing the monarchy of King Idris, forming an anti-imperialist Islamic socialist republic for 34 years until deposed by NATO supported oppositional forces in a bloody eight month civil war, the estimated number of dead varying widely from 2,500 to 30,000.
The image is composed from approximately 275 manipulated stills from various recordings made by Misrata militia soldiers.
