An ongoing series of portraits of great jazz musicians in performance. My interest in depicting jazz began as a young man, sketching notable musicians in clubs. Film footage has since replaced live performance as my source material, but the underlying concept remains essentially the same.

The work is also informed by the extraordinary achievements of these musicians, their personal struggles, and their often tragic lives.
